“The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.” CCC 1322
The Eucharist is the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ that is consecrated at every Mass and received by the faithful. This sacrament was instituted by Jesus at the last supper and is the source and summit of our faith as Catholics.
To receive the Eucharist, you must be a baptized Catholic in a state of grace who has been adequately prepared through catechesis.
The minimum/standard age for the Eucharist in the Archdiocese of Denver is 3rd grade. Preparation begins in 2nd grade. For those who are older and have not received your First Holy Communion, you can start the process at any age, just click the above link for the appropriate age group.
Immaculate Heart of Mary celebrates the Restored Order of the Sacraments of Initiation. Children can begin to prepare for the Sacraments in second grade (or older), they prepare and experience their First Penance in the spring as beginning disciples. Then move on to prepare and receive both their Confirmation and First Holy Communion in the spring of their growing disciple year.
The Archdiocese of Denver practices the restored order of the Sacraments of Initiation. These three sacraments are originally intended to be received in this order: Baptism, Confirmation then Holy Eucharist. The sacrament that fully initiates a person into the Catholic Church is Holy Eucharist (First Communion).
