Nobody Walks Alone: Accompanying Families Toward The Heart of Jesus

    • Nobody Walks Alone: Accompanying Families Toward The Heart of Jesus

The Guides program is an Intentional Accompaniment-focused program that matches Guides (a type of mentor) with families who have children starting Sacramental Preparation. The program has a goal of moving all participants into a closer relationship with Jesus and with our parish. Frequently Asked Questions are updated with questions we are receiving, and can be found below.

Guides Mission: Nobody walks alone, and everyone has an opportunity for a personal encounter with Jesus.

Vision: A parish where we worship together as friends and neighbors, with remarkable unity in Jesus despite our differences, fully living the universal calls to Holiness and Mission, and watching for, and inviting in, new arrivals.

We work against: division, judgement, and nihilism.

The Need: The IHM Guides Program needs many new Guides for the coming year (August-May). Guides will accompany up to three families during this time. Accompanying a family means listening to them without judgment, getting to know them with intentionality, and praying for them as you and they grow closer to Jesus.

How? We ask for helpers, called Guides. We group them with Coaches (three Guides per coach) so that nobody walks alone. We train Guides in the principles of accompaniment, prayer, and intercession. Then, each Guide is selected by three max families whose child(ren) is starting Sacramental Preparation. Then, for each family, the Guide will listen to them, pray for them, and walk with them, always asking the Holy Spirit to lead, so that nobody walks alone. Through prayer, the Holy Spirit and intentional accompaniment will provide each family with an opportunity to encounter and accept the love of Jesus if they wish, or grow in faith. Families who have been accompanied by Guides will be attracted to become Guides themselves in future years.

      Characteristics of Effective Guides:
      • Good listeners who are comfortable letting others talk, and can ask questions.
      • People who do not always have a response or answer, but think deeply about what they have heard.
      • People who can detach from results and allow for the movement of the Holy Spirit.
      • People who pray, or who are willing to learn intercessory prayer.

      Upcoming Informational Meetings:
      • Sunday, February 22, 10:00 - 11:00 in the Cenacle Room (add to your calendar)

      • Sunday, March 15, 10:00 - 11:00 in the Cenacle Room (add to your calendar)

If you are interested in learning more, or starting prayerful discernment to see if God is calling you to be a Guide, please contact Kit, Tyler, and Lizeth.
The Guides Program is a joint program of the Children and Adult Faith Formation Ministries.

        Nobody Walks Alone
I have grown up in this parish; many of you watched me grow up. This parish is my family, and in my love for the Church and zeal for Christ, this place has always been my home. I see your ministries, apostolates, and prayer groups—the places where you dedicate your precious time. I see how each distinctly intertwines to make a beautiful tapestry of love and faith. The effect of that tapestry is visible: it can be seen within our community of Northglenn! I see your hearts, and I am in awe. But now, we need your help.

    • Apostle's Prayer

Father, when you called Abraham, he responded, “Ready.”

When you called Isaiah, he answered, “Here I am Lord.”

When the angel Gabriel called out to Mary, she responded, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.”

Jesus, I hear you calling my name. I hear you entrusting me with the task of building your kingdom. Like those holy men and women who have gone before me, I give you my ‘yes’!

I will go anywhere you want me to go.

I will do anything you want me to do.

I will say anything you want me to say.

Holy Spirit, I welcome you and ask you to guide me. Form in me an apostle’s heart filled with love for Christ and zeal for souls. I will commit myself with courage and generosity to the New Evangelization. I will build brick by brick the city of God inside the city of man.

      Amen.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    • I'm very busy - how can this fit into my life with my own family?
      • Intentional Accompaniment happens within a framework, but without a template. Accompaniment can happen in a lot of ways, and is truly just investing in a relationship, similar to building a friendship or mentorship. The intentional part keeps the accompaniment focused on Christ.

Some ideas for accompaniment to give you some perspective:
        • Leading a small group (we can provide options for this)

        • Hosting “big question” dinners or pot luck gatherings, when families come together and have a “big question” discussion (we can provide prompts for this).

        • Starting a book club with monthly discussion gatherings.

        • Starting a Chosen watch club with monthly discussion gatherings.

        • Attending Revive healing services, and going out to a brewery afterward to share experiences.

Many more ideas exist - prayerful discernment, along with coaching, will provide a path for unique accompaniment according to the gifts of the Guide, and the natures of the families.

    • What kind of commitment is this? How much time will this take in my schedule?
      • We hope to train prospective Guides over an 8-week program. This will be scheduled through their Coach, who will lead three Guides through the training. It is open for Coaches to expedite the program a little, and we hope for this training to take place roughly over the summer, depending upon what works best for the Coach and their Guides.

After training, we will have a couple of full-group meetings in the late summer. These will be focused on actual logistics and large-group questions and answers.

Registration for Year One families will start August 1, and families will select a Guide as part of their registration. Once a Guide has been selected by three families, they will no longer be listed on the registration. At this point, the Guide will receive some contact information for each Family in order to start praying for them. In early September, we will encourage Guides to meet individually with each family. After this, through Coaching, Intentional Accompaniment will begin. The specific template for Intentional Accompaniment is very flexible, but we assume that Guides will be gathering with their families for around 2-3 hours each month, and these gatherings can take place as a group[ to make them as effective and efficient as possible. We also want Guides to meet with their Coach for regular meetings, which can be individually or as a group, in person or virtually.

Overall, we expect that Guides will spend about 16 hours training over 8 weeks, 2-3 hours meeting as a group at the end of the summer, 1 hour meeting with families in September (20 minutes per meeting), and then 2-3 hours each month.
    • I don't know if I know enough about the bible and the church to do this. What if I'm asked about something that I don't have an answer for?
      • Knowledge about the church and God's word is something that will always evolve over a lifetime, and we will always know a bit more now than we did a year ago, or more. But love of Jesus and our church doesn't actually require a strong theological base. The primary requisite is having converted your heart, mind, and will to Jesus.

The Guides program and Intentional Accompaniment is not about making a case for God, or answering every question. It is not about "apologetics" as it is traditionally termed. It is about helping others to understand that Jesus knows and loves them, and that God has a plan for their life. While theology can help enhance this sense, deep theological understanding isn't needed.

If a person asks a question that you can't answer, we advise our Guides to tell them that they don't know the answer to that question, but that they will promise to get that answer. Guides can turn to their Coach and the team Leaders for support in supplying an answer.
    • What if I have not converted my heart, mind, and will to Jesus?
      • Intentional Accompaniment does not assume that anyone has a converted heart, mind, or will - even people who are invited into the Guides program to be a Guide! Part of our training will help to bring our Guides through these questions, and walk our Guides through a conversion of heart, mind, and will if they haven't had that full experience yet (in other words - Guides themselves will be accompanied!).
    • What will happen if you don't get the number of volunteers that you need?
      • We are confident that Intentional Accompaniment is where God is leading our Children’s Faith Formation program. If we do not reach our goal of 27 Guides for the coming year (the number needed to maintain the size of our incoming Year One class based on the current program size), we will trust in God and allow the program to be smaller for a time so this approach can grow well and faithfully.

This would mean fewer available spots for children, since enrollment is limited by the number of trained Guides who are prepared to serve. We are confident this shift will bear fruit and inspire greater interest in the future. Every additional Guide who joins makes it possible for three more families to participate in Year One next year.
